Our In Person Meeting
Present: Pres. Chuck Cota and Linda Belle, Bonnie Munar, Art Azarcon, Ernie Delfin and for the 1st 40 minutes or so, Frank Adamo. Guests: Tino Anguiano, Pam Hengsakul, and Jose Jimenez at the upscale Buca di Beppo, Restaurant in Brea California. After the guests were formally introduced by Pres. Chuck, all the members gave self-introductions.
The featured program was O P I (Organization of the Physically Impaired), one of our club's beneficiaries and partners for our local community service. A short video of their activities was shown. A whole day event is planned for Saturday, June 6; whereby 30 or more restaurants will reveal their unique or signature menus as a fundraising for the organization. Our Club was invited to participate. We can also have a booth to share the value of our club with the objective of "HIGHLIGHTING ROTARY" and getting more members. This summer, tentatively set in August, they will also have a "international” competition of futbo (soccer) for a three day competition... All are invited and asked to help...More details from OPI will follow
Bonnie also inquired when the Club will be scheduled to go to Tijuana-Rosarito to deliver the towels and swim suits to the kids at Casa Hagar. Pres. Chuck is arraning the trip for sometime in May or early June.
Pres. Chuck discussed the solicitation for donations from our friends and business associates for the Casa Hogar in Tijuana Mexico to provide summer swim trucks and large towels. Pres. Chuck passed out cards showing a design with the names of our GKeRC club and the Casa Hogar de la Gracia orphanage. A donation of $39.00 will purchase 2 big towels (one for the donor, unless he donates it back), and to "own" it, the other for the kid with the name of the boy or girl embroider for each child. Part of the $39 donation will also include a swim suit for each child.
Ernie also announced the June 27 the ECO-Waste Collection fundraiser at the parking lot of the Fountain Valley Bowl at the corner of Brookhurst and Warner in Fountain Valley. A big banner will be placed on site two months before the event... Pres. Chuck is requested flyers be printed ASAP and distributed to as many businesses as possible and to all our members.
The April membership meeting was scheduled for the last Saturday, April 25, in a Temecula Winery to be arranged by Bonnie Munar
The July 11th installation of new set of officers, led by the incoming President Celly, was also announced. Tentatively the venue will be at Malarkey's Restaurant in Long Beach... Tickets will be printed soon and program, including the selected speaker, will also be secured.
Ernie also announced that PE Celly attended her PETS (Presidents Elect Training Seminar) in Tagaytay City Philippines. Our President Elect also visited our beneficiary Gawad Kalinga Villasis Namnama Village in Pangasinan, where she donated the collected money in person. To date the Adamos, the Delfins, Rillea, Dr. Lapuz, Dr. Pagarigan and Art have donated a total of just over $2,000 towards the $3,000 goal. We are very hopeful that the remaining members will come up with just a little more in the next 30 days to ensure we have our own REAL GKeRC donated house.
President Chuck and Ernie also described the "lessons learned" from the District 5320 Training Assembly; including the formation of Satellite Clubs that are now being implemented by many districts. Ernie announced the possibility of having one, the GKeRC Satellite Club of Villa-Urdaneta Philippines with a minimum of only 8 members
United Services e-Rotary Club
This video may be considered an excellent format for an e-club, online meeting. It's all on video.and they use the Like button on their FB page to show attendance. Perhaps a Like AND a comment would better served as an attendance.
Live, online conferences may be necessary for an e-club; however, this is a fine way to have weekly meetings. One obstacle would be setting up a similar club intro/ending for our club. Perhaps a Future Rotarian, might be interested in seting up an intro/ending for our own weekly meetings?
BTW, if you have seen this video earlier this week, it will count toward your minimum 30 minutes for attendance. And be sure to watch to full video, including the TEDx presentation. The entire video is outstanding.
