Welcome to the Global Kalinga e-Rotary Club for the week of Sunday, March 13 through Saturday March 19, 2016. We are an Internet based Rotary Club based in Quezon City, Philippines with core groups of members in Southern California and elsewhere. We serve our local and nearby communities as well as projects in the Philippines.
Invocation
Thank you, Father, for the gift of Rotary and each other. Bless this food as we nourish our bodies and our minds. May we be ever mindful of those in need. Help us to provide food to the hungry; to heal the wounds of hatred with our love; comfort those in sorrow; bring peace to those living in areas of unrest. Through our service to all we thank you for all our gifts. Amen.
Rotary 4-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
By building your team's self-esteem and encouraging them, the entire team becomes stronger.
Sing-Along Song—Let there be Peace on Earth
Take your time and sing-along (wherever you may be).
Fine Master
Traditionally, Rotary clubs have Fine Masters who are responsible for collecting fines/happy dollars. The clipart to your left is our e-club Fine Master. Do you have happy dollars, a birthday, an anniversary, a promotion, opening a new business, new car, new child, new grandchild, etc. Please feel free (and perhaps obligated) to click on our Rotary FineMaster button to your right.
The minimum fine is $3.00 to ensure a sufficient amount to take care of the PayPal fee. The purpose of the fines can be viewed by clicking on [View Fines/Happy Dollars] from the [Weekly Meetings] main menu
Program—Success of Nonviolent Civil Resistance by Erica Chenoweth
Chicago is the only city in the United States in which protesters have caused havoc during a presidential campaign. Once in 1968 where fist fights broke out on the convention floor of the Democratic National Convention and this past week when protesters shut down Donald Trump's rally.
Are violent protests more effective than peaceful demonstrations? Martin Luther King did not believe so, as he and his followers eventually integrated the South through peaceful protests. This video highlights the effectiveness of peaceful protests on the campus of one of the most liberal universities in the U.S. Very interesting results. For further insight, check Frank's article he wrote on Chicago Madness.
Club Business
On March 9 several of our members had the honor to meet Tony Meloto, the founder of Gawad Kalinga (officially known as the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation), a Philippine-based poverty alleviation and nation-building movement. Everyone was inspired by his presentation. If possible, we will have exerpts of his speech for next week's meeting.
We will have a board meeting on March 19 from 2:00 to 3:30. Location will be either Marie Calenders in La Palma or Harbor Prime in Fullerton.
