Rotary: The Future of Membership

Welcome to the Global Kalinga e-Rotary Club for the week of Sunday, April 24, through Saturday April 30, 2016. We are an Internet based Rotary Club based in Quezon City, Philippines with core groups of members in Southern California and elsewhere. We serve our local and nearby communities as well as projects in the Philippines.

Inspiration (Not necessarily inpirational, but factual with hope)

“Millennials: We lost the genetic lottery. We graduated high school into terrorist attacks and wars. We graduated college into a recession and mounds of debt. We will never acquire the financial cushion, employment stability, and material possessions of our parents. We are often more educated, experienced, informed, and digitally fluent than prior generations, yet are constantly haunted by the trauma of coming of age during the detonation of the societal structure we were born into. But perhaps we are overlooking the silver lining. We will have less money to buy the material possessions that entrap us. We will have more compassion and empathy because our struggles have taught us that even the most privileged can fall from grace. We will have the courage to pursue our dreams because we have absolutely nothing to lose. We will experience the world through backpacking, couch surfing, and carrying on interesting conversations with adventurers in hostels because our bank accounts can't supply the Americanized resorts. Our hardships will obligate us to develop spiritual and intellectual substance. Maybe having roommates and buying our clothes at thrift stores isn't so horrible as long as we are making a point to pursue genuine happiness.” ~ Maggie Young. Sounds like millennials would make fine Rotarians. As a troubled teenager, Maggie Young left her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee for the United States Navy. Stationed on the USS Higgins out of San Diego, she got into all sorts of documentary-worthy shenanigans. After a platonic, financially driven marriage, an NCIS investigation, a few wild port visits, and some turbulent affairs, she traded the Navy’s ranks for UC Berkeley. After graduation, she backpacked Europe, was a television reporter in Alaska, and eventually hit a quarter life crisis that will be documented in her next book, My Dilemma. Maggie has been published several times in the San Diego Weekly Reader, including two cover stories. Her mission is to expose corruption through a memoir’s emotional authenticity.

Do you have happy dollars, a birthday, an anniversary, a promotion, opening a new business, new car, new child, new grandchild, etc. Please feel free (and perhaps obligated) to click on our Rotary FineMaster button to your right.

Program— Rotary: The Future of Membership - Mitty Chang

In this presentation Mitty Chang, a millennial, discusses the importance of the Internet and having a web site, not only for e-clubs, but for all Rotary clubs at the 2016 District Governors' Elect Assembly in San Diego. He explains that all clubs need to have web sites to attract millennials as potential members. He is so committed that he and his business partners are currently having clubs beta test a Rotary web site template which will be available for all clubs by July 1.

If he's willing to do this for all Rotary clubs, as an e-club, shouldn't we be more involved with our web site and Facebook groups?
