Being Memorial Day weekend, this meeting reflects a time to remember and reflect on those who have died to keep us free. Welcome to the Global Kalinga e-Rotary Club for the week of Sunday, May 29, through Saturday June 4, 2016. We are an Internet based Rotary Club based in Quezon City, Philippines with core groups of members in Southern California and elsewhere. We serve our local and nearby communities as well as projects in the Philippines.
Inspiration
"There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires." Nelson Mandela
As a reminder, "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Abraham Lincoln
Rotary 4-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
By building your team's self-esteem and encouraging them, the entire team becomes stronger.
Sing-Along Song—Manions!
This is a somber and a very beautiful tribute to our military men and women who have fallen and have risen to their mansions with the Lord. Take your time and sing-along (if you can) or merely listen as you reflect on those who have given their lives to allow us to remain free.
Fine Master
This week, you may want to pay the fine master if you had a relative who served in WWII, especially one who served in the Philippines. Traditionally, Rotary clubs have Fine Masters who are responsible for collecting fines/happy dollars. The clipart to your left is our e-club Fine Master. Do you have happy dollars, a birthday, an anniversary, a promotion, opening a new business, new car, new child, new grandchild, etc. Please feel free (and perhaps obligated) to click on our Rotary Fine Master button to your right.
The minimum fine is $3.00 to ensure a sufficient amount to take care of the PayPal fee. The purpose of the fines can be viewed by clicking on [View Fines/Happy Dollars] from the [Weekly Meetings] main menu
Program—These Hallowed Grounds
This documentary highlights the foreign cemeteries and memorials honoring the sacrifices of the U.S. military on behalf of other nations.
This is an hour long program. To achieve your time for your attendance, you may watch up to the 25 minute mark, directly after the narration of the Manila American Cemetery, the largest memorial cemetery worldwide for the U.S. military, with more than 17,000 graves, including nearly 600 Filipino soldiers who fought alongside the U.S. forces. However, you are encouraged to watch the entire program to fully understand the full impact of those we lothst in both WWI and WWII.
Club Business
We have added an Event Budget Excel form for those members/committee requesting to be in charge of an event. Any costs for an event needs to be approved by the board. For any event, please plan ahead to give sufficient time for board approval. To expedite board approval and the member/group is not part of the board, the event budget may be emailed to the president and he/she will place the budget on our Facebook GKeRC-Board group for discussion and approval.
