October is Rotary's Economic and Community Development Month

Welcome to the Global Kalinga e-Rotary Club for the week of Sunday, October 2, through Saturday, October 8, 2016. We are an Internet based Rotary Club based in Quezon City, Philippines with core groups of members in Southern California and elsewhere. We serve our local and nearby communities as well as projects in the Philippines.

Inspiration

In light of today's racial divide and other confrontations in the communities of our country, perhaps we should heed President Eisenhower's words, "This world of ours... must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect."

Rotary 4-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

By building your team's self-esteem and encouraging them, the entire team becomes stronger.

Sing-Along Song—ASEAN: Song of Unity

Though this is for the ASEAN community of 10 Southeast Asian Nations, this is beautiful song appropriate for anywhere. Take your time and sing-along (wherever you may be).

Fine Master

Traditionally, Rotary clubs have Fine Masters who are responsible for collecting fines/happy dollars. The clipart to your left is our e-club Fine Master. Do you have happy dollars, a birthday, an anniversary, a promotion, opening a new business, new car, new child, new grandchild, etc. Please feel free (and perhaps obligated) to click on our Rotary Fine Master button to your right.

The minimum fine is $3.00 to ensure a sufficient amount to take care of the PayPal fee. The purpose of the fines can be viewed by clicking on [View Fines/Happy Dollars] from the [Weekly Meetings] main menu

Program—Want to help someone? Shut up and listen!

As Rotary's Economic and Community Development Month, this video may assist us in working with our community projects. Ernesto Sirolli got his start doing aid work in Africa in the 70's — and quickly realized how ineffective it was. When most well-intentioned aid workers hear of a problem they think they can fix, they go to work.

This, Ernesto Sirolli suggests, is naïve. In this funny and impassioned talk, he proposes that the first step is to listen to the people you're trying to help, and tap into their own entrepreneurial spirit. His advice on what works will help any entrepreneur. When most well-intentioned aid workers hear of a problem they think they can fix, they go to work. This, Ernesto Sirolli suggests, is naïve. Ernesto Sirolli is a noted authority in the field of sustainable economic development and is the Founder of the Sirolli Institute, an international non-profit organization that teaches community leaders how to establish and maintain Enterprise Facilitation projects in their community. The Institute is now training communities in the USA, Canada, Australia, England and Scotland.

Club Business

Our next monthly meeting for Southern California will be on Oct 9 at Mimi's Café in Yorba Linda. The address is 18342 CA-90 E, Yorba Linda, CA 92886. Our meeting room is good to accommodate more than 40 peoples so come and do invite a friend to come. Ernie was able to get a great speaker for our meeting.

Another reminder that we are scheduled for a casino bus trip to Pechanga on Sunday, October 16. The cost for the trip is only $25.00. We need to at least 45 people to fill the bus to Pechanga.
