Watch how the Filipinos kicked off the New Year

Welcome to the Global Kalinga e-Rotary Club for the week of Sunday, January 8 through Saturday January 14, 2017. We are an Internet based Rotary Club based in Quezon City, Philippines with core groups of members in Southern California and elsewhere. We serve our local and nearby communities as well as projects in the Philippines.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017

Invocation and Inspiration

Dear Father. As the calendar turns and another new year begins, it is the time for new beginnings, as well as a time to reflect on the past. Let us be thankful for our Rotary friends and the changes our service can bring. Let us be thankful for what we have achieved, and mindful of our responsibility to continue the good works. Our commitment to service can make the world a better place. Amen

"New Year's Day. A fresh start. A new chapter in life waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced, and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. Today carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change." Sarah Ban Breathnach

Rotary 4-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

By building your team's self-esteem and encouraging them, the entire team becomes stronger.

Sing-Along Song—Old Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and later set to the tune of a traditional folk song. The song's title may be translated into Standard English as "old long since” or more idiomatically, "long long ago", "days gone by" or "old time’s sake". The song begins by posing a rhetorical question as to whether it is right that old times be forgotten, and is generally interpreted as a call to remember long-standing friendships. Take your time and sing-along (wherever you may be).

And as we look forward to a new year with hope and kindness, let's remember those who have passed during 2016. One person missing is Frank Sinatra, Jr. who passed away March 16, 2016, of cardiac arrest while on tour in Daytona, Florida.

Fine Master

Traditionally, Rotary clubs have Fine Masters who are responsible for collecting fines/happy dollars. The clipart to your left is our e-club Fine Master. Do you have happy dollars, a birthday, an anniversary, a promotion, opening a new business, new car, new child, new grandchild, etc. Please feel free (and perhaps obligated) to click on our Rotary Fine Master button to your right.

The minimum fine is $3.00 to ensure a sufficient amount to take care of the PayPal fee. The purpose of the fines can be viewed by clicking on [View Fines/Happy Dollars] from the [Weekly Meetings] main menu

Program—The 5 'Musts' to Sustainable Exercise

Typical New Year's resolutions include losing weight, stop smoking, exercise, spend less and save more, learn something new, and get organized. Many times, we begin and then quit, begin and quit; sometimes year after year after year.

Well, in this video, Michael Haddnin, who has a Bachelor of Applied Science: Exercise Science, Minor Human Nutrition; Masters of Strength and Conditioning, is a true believer in practicing what he preaches, Michael Haddin is not an extremist, but a realist, whose philosophy for health is more about creating sustainable lifelong changes rather then the usual crash and bash approach used by many. His philosophy on The 5 'Musts' to Sustainable Exercise can be applied to other New Year's resolution making it easier for us to complete our resolutions, and of course, help us exercise more effectively.
